JACKAL Jackal

Seattle audio artist & manic-pixie-dream-boy/loudmouth frontman, TJ Grant, is the wiz behind the dreamy soundscapes, catchy hooks, and party percussion of JACKAL JACKAL. With the spirit and versatility of artists like Beck, Animal Collective, or Tom Waitts & the creative spontaneity of Reggie Watts or Jonathan Richman, TJ Grant entertains with stars in his eyes and ignites our cold hearts with a juicy abundance of romantic idealism. But there is something in TJ’s electric spirit that gives him a ‘something’s-off-here’ quirkiness — likely a result of growing up isolated in the forests of Washington State — that keeps us curious at his every twitchy inflection.

If you followed his early 00’s post-punk/indie-pop project — IF BEARS WERE BEES — then you’ll be pleased with the continued harsh confrontation of the truth that Grant lyrically slaps you in the face with. Now equipped with a labyrinth of synths, knobs, and buttons, TJ’s music has become a melancholic trip through a reverb drenched, punk rock wormhole.

TJ Grant is a multi-instrumentalist performer, composer, & producer. He produces, engineers, Albums, EPs & Singles of all genres, and scores film all from his studio in Olympia, WA.

When Grant really rears back and belts it out, that weird, ironic, smart-guy delivery gets delightfully lost in real emotion. That’s why [his] ironic quotation marks are so powerful: When they come down, you feel like you’ve been hit in the chest.
